We drove 30 miles out of LA on the Pacific Coast Highway to the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu, and then we we hiked into Solstice Canyon.

We hiked along a shady trail, sometimes getting off course and having to find our way back … until we found the remains of the Roberts House and Tropical Terrace.

The house burned down in 1982 … and became a public park six years later.

It made us feel like kids again … exploring ruins … imagining what life would be like to have a view of a waterfall out the back window.
