Raw.

by hasalyn

The first weekend we were in LA, my friend Jamie Brunton observed, “You’re more LA than me.  And I have lived here for almost ten years.” She said that in the context of me describing my dairy impairment and kombucha worship.

Perhaps she’s right.  Perhaps I am, and always have been an Angeleno in albino clothing.

Correspondingly, I started yoga last week.

I thought we were just going to be finding our chi and doing a little stretching. Instead, our yogi Sheri kicked our asses with 90 minutes of torture. Afterwards, she treated us to fresh coconut water — right out of the nut. With straws.  She told us her lifelong dream was to open a RawFoodRestaurantYogaStudioDanceClub.  She changed my life.

Ever since, I’ve been downing spinach smoothies and afflicting Logan with my somewhat confused endeavors in the raw.  Tonight I made him eat “creamed” avocado and fake pasta (and chicken sausage). What can I say? I’m impressionable. And it was delicious.

Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner.

The one thing Logan HAS requested since I started dabbling in the raw is a shot of this drink in the morning.  It’s amazing.  I went on a death hike last weekend and faced certain death if not for the nutrients in this smoothie.  Namaste.

Green Smoothie (via In Style)

Serves 2-4 (or just me)

1 1/2 cups water

1 head organic romaine lettuce — chopped

1/2 large bunch or 3/4 small bunch organic spinach

3-4 stalks organic celery — chopped

1 organic pear – cored and chopped

1 organic banana

Juice of 1 organic lemon

1. Add water, romaine and spinach to the blender. Mix until smooth.  2.  Gradually moving to higher speeds, add celery, apple and pear. 3.  Add banana and lemon just last.  Blend until smooth.  4.  Add tequila and a bit of ice for a real party.  Seriously.
